Of these, the second, namely, the Kritanam consists of
praising the God in all His aspects. There are innumerable
instances in the Purāņas to show that many devotees have
attained Sāyujya, by their fervent devotion to the God.

In order to help people to follow the path of devotion
and engage themselves in prayer, a number of Stotras that
have been composed by many devotees and scholars in the past
are now made available in print. There have been a number of
Stotras printed previously but care has been taken to include in
this edition only such of them that have not been printed.
By oversight, Sii Şaḍvarṇamantrāṣṭakam has been printed
twice as Stotra 23 under the Siva Stotras on page 91 and
as Stotra 28 under the Prakirṇa Stotras on page 510. It
may be that one or two Stotras which have been printed else-
where might have crept in this edition also.

The collection of the Stotras, Stotrǎrṇava, has been
divided into nine Tarangas (1) Gaṇeśa (2) Siva (3) Viṣṇu
(4) Rāma (5) Kṛṣṇa (6) Prakirṇa or Miscellaneous
(7) Subrahmanya (8) Devi or Goddess and (9) Mangalam.

In Appendix I are given verses 6 to 111 pertaining to Śrī
Daśāvatāra Stotras, of which only 5 verses have been printed
on page 167. These verses were deciphered and copied only
subsequently after the printing of the Stotra and hence they
are added as an Appendix.

The Sivaśataka, which is printed as No. 4 of the Siva-
stotra, was copied from a manuscript bearing R. No. 3341
(b). It was full of mistakes and corrections were made by
the editor as far as possible. While it was under print,
another manuscript in Oriya script, under No. R. 3172 was
taken up for collation with the help of Sri A. M. Srinivasa-
chary, who is well familiar with the Oriya script. Those
readings from the Oriya manuscrit were incorporated in the
text itself after a certain stage. The readings from this manus-
cript could not be given for the earlier part of the Sataka.
Since these readings are invariably better, they have now been
printed as Appendix II.

The particulars of the manuscripts from which press
copies were prepared for this edition of Stotrāṇavam are
given after the introduction in a tabular form to facilitate
easy reference,
